Coral Bay

The Ningaloo Reef provides a physical barrier to Coral Bay, from the vagaries of the Indian Ocean. Coral Bay lies on the coast of Western Australia, about 120 kilometres, south of Exmouth. It takes 2 hours to reach Coral Bay from Perth by flight. Coral Bay is known for beach weather, which lasts the entire year. It experiences minimal rainfall.
The uniqueness of Coral Bay lies in the coral which can be seen off the coast easily. Children on the beach can also view and enjoy the sight of corals in the bay. Coral viewing boats are available for tourists to enjoy the sight of corals found in different shapes in the region.
Snorkelling, kayaking and scuba-diving are some of the water sports prevalent in this region. Humpback whales can be seen on their annual migration in the period between June and October. The world’s largest fish, the whale sharks and manta rays can be seen in this region. These fishes can grow up to 18 metres in length and feed in the waters of Coral Bay from April to June. Whale sharks are plankton eaters and are drawn to the coast for the food available there.
Aerial tours are operated in this region. It provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of Ningaloo Reef. The marine life found in the Coral Bay like whale sharks, turtles and manta rays can also be viewed by opting for the aerial tours.
The Loggerhead, Green and Hawkesville turtles can be found in the shallows. Turtle nesting sites are also present on the beach. The nesting period occurs in the months from November to February.
