The Francois Peron National Park which covers an area of 52,500 hectares offers tourists arid shrublands, rolling sandplains and spectacular coastal scenery. The Monkey Mia road, which is found 4 kilometres east from Denham leads to Francois Peron National Park.
There are two walking trails organised at the park – Wanamalu Trail and Station Life Walk Trail. The Wanamulu Trail offers tourists the opportunity to view marine life atop sand dunes. The sand dunes have a brilliant red colour, which provides a contrasting range of colours for the avid photographer. Visitors can view wildflowers growing in spring. The Station Life Walk Trail depicts the earlier history of the park when it was a working sheep station. This trail takes visitors through the Peron Homestead Precinct, which includes the shearing quarters and stock yards.
A small interpretive centre throws light on the life and events of the indigenous people. It helps visitors understand the history of the area, by providing insight into the period of European colonisation, apart from disseminating information on current day conservation programs.
